About Me

My photo
Adalbert is a forum for me, to post ephemera, photography, poetry, occasional travel notes, and various spontaneous motions. Cover photo: Parsonage where my great-grandfather spent his early years. Taken near Liegnitz, Silesia, ca. 1870. The "xothique" portion of the web address is a nod to Clark Ashton Smith's fictional continent of Zothique.

  1. I find the reverse of some of these cabinet cards/cdvs as interesting as the photo itself. Lovely design here and an interesting address, 'Eckhaus von Graben' means (I think) the corner house from the cemetery (Graben = graves).

  2. The designs on the backs of those photo cards were great! That is a colorful address. The woman's eyebrows are noticeably thick, like Frida Kahlo's, and she wore a corset. Perhaps she came from some far part of the Austro-Hungarian empire.

  3. Rob, thanks for the info. How did you get the link in the comment? I've tried that but there's no hyperlink.
