About Me

My photo
Adalbert is a forum for me, to post ephemera, photography, poetry, occasional travel notes, and various spontaneous motions. Cover photo: Parsonage where my great-grandfather spent his early years. Taken near Liegnitz, Silesia, ca. 1870. The "xothique" portion of the web address is a nod to Clark Ashton Smith's fictional continent of Zothique.

40th Anniversary of the End

A. Peter Dewey (photo source) wrote in 1945, in a line seemingly from Joseph Conrad or Graham Greene: "Cochinchina is burning, the French and British are finished here, and we ought to clear out of Southeast Asia." (Dick Cavett's Vietnam made me aware of this quotation.)

30 years later, and 40 years ago, the USA did leave Vietnam.

Busker Du?

Buskers in Wrocław, Poland. I gave them a few złotys, as I did with the man playing a guitar and singing "Yellow Submarine" in Ostrów Tumski.

Villa Stuck and Alte Pinakothek

I visited the Villa Stuck and the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. I particularly was fond of Von Stuck's artist's altar on the upper story, featuring a kind of shrine to his painting Die Sünde. Workers are in the process of revamping the Pinakothek, so a number of galleries have blocked access.
