About Me

My photo
Adalbert is a forum for me, to post ephemera, photography, poetry, occasional travel notes, and various spontaneous motions. Cover photo: Parsonage where my great-grandfather spent his early years. Taken near Liegnitz, Silesia, ca. 1870. The "xothique" portion of the web address is a nod to Clark Ashton Smith's fictional continent of Zothique.

  1. Great photo, one that raises so many questions. Do you think the lady in the oval had passed on at the time this picture was made?

  2. I'm guessing the 'cutout' lady in the middle is the mother and the ladies either side are her daughters, possible with there husbands. Can't figure out the young woman in the middle though.

  3. Both good speculations. Lisa, it's possible the lady in the cutout could have passed away, or maybe was unable to join the family, across the seas perhaps. Ray, you got more out of the photo than I did, but you may well be right with the family relationships. They do look to be of Middle Eastern origin. At least the ones in the center and on the left.
