Adalbert is a forum for me, to post ephemera, photography, poetry, occasional travel notes, and various spontaneous motions. Cover photo: Parsonage where my great-grandfather spent his early years. Taken near Liegnitz, Silesia, ca. 1870. The "xothique" portion of the web address is a nod to Clark Ashton Smith's fictional continent of Zothique.
I've visited the museum a very long time ago, I remember it was extremely crowded. Still it made a huge impression, especially the Wheatfield with Crows.
Rob, I went to the Van Gogh museum right after opening time and it wasn't too bad for crowds (except kids on a school trip). Yes, the Wheatfield with Crows is haunting. The idea used to be the painting showed his despair before committing suicide -- I would see it as dark, but I remember someone else who interpreted it as hopeful. I liked his interpretations of Japanese prints along with the well-known self- portraits, irises, and so on. The exhibits there now show how he worked, using a grid and a special perspective instrument for example.
That sounds interesting! Have a great trip.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it's going well.
