Adalbert is a forum for me, to post ephemera, photography, poetry, occasional travel notes, and various spontaneous motions. Cover photo: Parsonage where my great-grandfather spent his early years. Taken near Liegnitz, Silesia, ca. 1870. The "xothique" portion of the web address is a nod to Clark Ashton Smith's fictional continent of Zothique.
It sure is, Ray, doesn't seem like the best idea. I don't know how things ended up with the bear -- the story's lost to time. I never met that great-uncle.
Your grandfather looks like captain Haddock. I don't know much about bears, but if this is a baby bear which will grow into a large bear than having a pet bear doesn't seem such a good idea. But those were different times, who knows.
Ha, I had to look up Captain Haddock, some similarity. I still write he looks like a Dostoyevsky character there. Don't know what happened with the bear, as mentioned, but many have regretted having wild animals for pets.
I remember the earlier photo of your grandfather, he certainly makes an imposing figure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment, Ray. My grandfather looked quite a bit different in later years, as I remember him.
ReplyDeleteTaking a bear on as a pet is quite a thing to do. Was he able to care for it when it got older.
