Adalbert is a forum for me, to post ephemera, photography, poetry, occasional travel notes, and various spontaneous motions. Cover photo: Parsonage where my great-grandfather spent his early years. Taken near Liegnitz, Silesia, ca. 1870. The "xothique" portion of the web address is a nod to Clark Ashton Smith's fictional continent of Zothique.
Ray, I initially grew familiar with Le Ballet Mécanique from an old record album which belonged to my grandfather (I may still have it somewhere), which I used to listen to. The sirens and pounding rhythms make for a heavy experience indeed. Meshes well with the unsettling leaps in Léger's film, the tides of repeating shots, the woman's face smiling mysteriously., Hedy Lamarr has gotten quite a bit of attention lately for her unusual life.
An interesting post, Jonathan. I found the Le Ballet Mécanique very intense but that's the point I guess... Heavy on the nerves.
